What Would You Do For a Second Chance?

The First Time I Saw Him author Laura Dave on the sequel she never expected to write.

Dear Reader,

When The Last Thing He Told Me entered the world, the Reese’s Book Club community embraced the novel with your whole hearts. I can’t begin to thank you for that. Or to express my gratitude for your wonderful notes, posts and DMs—and all the ways you welcomed this novel (and me along with it) into your lives.

So many of you who reached out asked the same question: what happens next for Hannah Hall?

And while I often imagine a future for my characters, long past the last page, I was surprised that I had an answer to this question, whole cloth. It was an answer that started right where The Last Thing He Told Me ends—and which takes Hannah and Bailey on a relentless race across the world. An answer that takes us back forty years into the past – to find the way to the future that Hannah deserves.

The First Time I Saw Him is about many things: forgiveness, redemption, salvation. But, more than anything, it’s about the enduring power of love—a love that, sometimes, just might lead us to a second chance.

I can’t wait to hear what you think.

The sequel secret is out! 🤫 Author Laura Dave found continuing the story from The Last Thing He Told Me totally organic, and knew early on exactly where the story was headed after the last page. In her new book, The First Time I Saw Him, Laura says she knew what the story was about before ever picking up her pen to write.

What’s a Reese’s Book Club pick that changed the way you see the world? 💛📖

We asked Monique from @theroomiesdigest to share her favorite pick, and she came through with a memoir that hits home. It’s powerful, intimate, and deeply impactful especially in how it captures Tembi Locke's lived experience as a Black woman from America finding her heart in Italy. 💖☺️
