There are a LOT of reasons to love Reese’s Book Club, but for me, the greatest joy is that every pick has a strong woman at its heart. You may not necessarily like that woman, (at least in the beginning), but she’s always independent, determined, and someone who, for the most part, will lift a fellow female up along the way.

Whilst writing , Pammie very quickly revealed herself to be one of those formidable women. With every turn of the page, she became more and more fierce – and not in a good way! She took great umbrage to her son’s new girlfriend, Emily and did everything in her power to split them up. But why? What was her motivation? What did she know that Emily didn’t?

That’s the crux of a domestic suspense novel; the delicious detangling of characters’ motives and provocations; intentions and objectives. There’s nothing more satisfying than peeling back those complex, multi-faceted layers of someone’s psyche.

That’s what I wanted to delve into again when writing The Guilt Trip, a novel in which six friends go to Portugal to celebrate a wedding. But by the end of the reception, there’s one dead body and five guilty consciences.

There are many parallels to , where nothing is quite as it seems, so if you loved that one, here’s ten reasons why you might enjoy The Guilt Trip

1. It’s a twisty domestic thriller where everyone has an agenda – you just have to work out what it is.

2. They say you should ‘Never Judge a Book by its Cover’ and that idiom couldn’t be more apt here. People aren’t always who you think they are, but you need to tread carefully amongst this group of friends to find out who’s hiding behind who.

3. This is a classic story about ordinary people, who find themselves in an extraordinary situation. We all know people like Rachel, Jack, Paige, Noah, Ali & Will – any of us could be on The Guilt Trip – even you!

4. Like our protagonist Emily in , this novel is told from the perspective of Rachel whose relationship is being called into question by another woman.

5. The short, punchy chapters will have you reading ‘just one more’ in your quest to find out what’s going on.

6. It’s another invite to a wedding in a paradise destination, but you may wish you weren’t invited to this one.

7. Our bride-to-be, Ali, may come across as sweetness and light, but she’s a force to be reckoned with. Underestimate her at your own peril!

8. Although it’s set in Portugal, they’re a British-based group of close friends who share a chequered history. Though it’s only when new girl Ali comes along that all their secrets, lies and betrayals come to light.

9. Just like Adam in , Jack seems quite the catch, but is there more to him than meets the eye?

10. The Guilt Trip may be the only chance we get to go away this year, so jump on board and enjoy the ride, but be warned; the tickets are one-way only.
