Fans of Firekeeper’s Daughter always ask: What happens to Jamie? Do Daunis and Jamie ever reconnect? You wouldn’t leave us hanging, would you?
WOULD YOU?!
Dearest Reader,
First, Sisters in the Wind has an explosive beginning (literally!). Meet Lucy Smith, an eighteen-year-old who recently aged out of the foster care system. Alone and guarded, her spiky dark hair and multiple piercings and tattoos are intended to convey: KEEP OUT—NO TRESPASSERS ALLOWED. When a handsome Native guy glides into the diner where she works, Lucy assumes he’s there to kill her. She’s been expecting this confrontation since fleeing from a painful past.

Next, a confession. I’ve always wanted to tell Jamie’s story, but didn’t know how to do it in a young adult novel. Jamie—that hot mess—was an undercover tribal cop posing as a high-school senior in Firekeeper’s Daughter. IRL he was a former foster child, someone who’d been “adopted out” and had no connection with his Native American tribe.
The Jamie who crosses paths with Lucy is now an attorney helping former foster kids reconnect with their Native families and communities. Lucy wants to trust Jamie and his “friend not friend” Daunis, but years in foster care taught her to survive and to question the motives of everyone offering help and kindness. Someone is stalking her, and they have no qualms about hurting anyone close to her.
Her life is going up in smoke—not for the first time—but Lucy decides this time will be the last.
I hope you enjoy Sisters in the Wind.
Sincerely,
Angeline Boulley
P.S. Just curious…is it #JAUNIS or #DAMIE? (or #TeamTJ)?
